Other Paintings
Orknies from Evie
(2001)
Oil on board £650. 56cm x 46cm.
Oil sketch done from Evie looking east, flooding tide.0
TSS Titanic profile
(1976)
Gouache £6500. 132cm x 61cm.
Framed in stained wood and gold leaf. Very accurate and very detailed, 1:800 scale painting of Triple Screw Steamer RMS Titanic 1912 based on Harland and Wolff Ltd general arrangement drawings and contemporary photographs.
Painted ih style of traditional Victorian ship profiles with human figures for scale. Decorative boarders and font unique to this image. All surface blemishes due to age of painting remain untouched.
To the Titanic buff there are small deviations from the actual ship due to limits of information in the source reference material namely the 1972 reprint of The Shipbuilder Magazine from 1910, published by Patrick Stephens Ltd. Hence no gold line at the shelter deck level (C deck). This painting is entirely of its time when the Titanic story was not the extensively researched and published world-wide phenomenon of 2012.

Mr Abid-Ali, Clifton Beach, Karachi
(0)
Gouache £500. 26cm x 21cm.
Mr Abid-Ali had a fizzy drinks cafe on the beach at Clifton, Karachi, pakistan. I sat in there and painted him whilst he posed on his mobile Pepsi stall outside looking very relaxed. A small crowd watched as a painted so i'm not sure how I managed to concentrate so well as it is a very good likeness of Mr Ali. I wonder how he is?
Nowadays I wouldn't dream of catching a bus down to Clifton beach on my own to spend the day drawing and painting. As a lone white westerner I might well be a target for abuse so this painting might represent a moment of relative peace and harmony between Pakistan and the West. Of course it might also represent a time of youthful but uniformed optimism and invulnerability.0

Prima Salmo
(1993)
Acrylic and collage on canvas. £3500. 109cm x 89cm.
Rare example of a body of work about the river Tyne executed after graduation in 1991 and soon after completing my first residency with English Nature. The birth of my first child might also have contributed something to the energy of this painting. It is also a reference to a gouache made at the age of 11 of a salmon leaping a waterfall.
Now available as an A3+ limited edition, framed & mounted print price £195 + p&p or £125+p&p mounted print only or £99 print only in a tube. Prices for larger sizes on application.
The work takes ideas of the river Tyne as a starting point and here I imagine the first Tyne salmon returning home to the moorland spawning grounds under a new moon. The landscape itself has a virgin quality to it.0
Sun River
(2003)
Ink and Gouache on paper. 65cm x 55cm.
Framed mounted and glazed. An imaginary primal river Tyne at Elswick looking west to Ryton just after the last ice age receded. Everything has been scraped bare. Everything has a new beginning defined by the sun, the river, the valley, and the atmosphere.
One of a series about the river Tyne and my relationship with it.0
